My Story
I'm Benedictus Tawananyasha Makuyana, a 18-year-old developer from Kariba, Zimbabwe. My online name is Dr BennyT ~ a nickname given to me by family since birth, because they always believed I'd become a doctor of some kind one day. I am currently working on making that true, in the field I'm most passionate and talented.
I discovered coding during the Covid-19 lockdown, when most other options dried up. I was watching Game Shakers on TV and something in that show sparked a thought: I could build something like that. So I started. I had a mentor who led me to begin C, C++ then eventually, HTML, CSS, then JavaScript. From then on I was completely self-directed ~ just a browser, YouTube, and a lot of curiosity.
I explored platforms like IBM's learning tracks, built real projects, joined collaborative efforts with fellow Zimbabwean youth builders, and participated in hackathons. I partnered with people like Laston Misiya on youth and innovation projects ~ gaining real-world experience in teamwork, deadlines, and delivering something that not only works but solves a problem.
In November 2025 I completed my AS & A Levels. In August 2026, I begin BTech Computer Science at Harare Institute of Technology. My focus going forward is AI, automation, and software that genuinely helps people ~ not just demos, but things that are actually used continually.
I'm not pretending to be further along than I am. But I'm serious, I deliver, and I'm just getting started.
